Strains of Microalgae for CO2 sequestration
The quest for a “0 footprint” in terms of greenhouse gas emissions is the cornerstone for the value of these strains. CO2 capture allows these photosynthetic microorganisms to grow to culture densities of more than 6 grams of biomass per litre. Yield improvement, biomass characterization and adaptation to different industrial CO2 containing fumes are the next steps in the development of this product.
Glycerol-processing fungi
Glycerol is one of the by-products of biodiesel production. The fungus identified at Biomar makes use of glycerol at concentrations of up to 100 gr/litre, enabling this waste to be turned into a new biomass that in turn has a high level of acylglycerides.
