Preservative for carbonated drinks
We have selected 15 extracts from our sub-collection of non-cytotoxic antibacterial products as potential new preservatives for the soft drink sector.
Logo Vitatene
This project, carried out with the collaboration of Vitatene, is based on the identification of 8 strains containing carotenoids for use as colourants in the food industry.
One of our active projects consists in the identification of molecules with sweetening properties. The chemical diversity of our collection guarantees success in the identification of new products with safe profiles and organoleptic properties.
Omega 3 fatty acids
Date: 2012-2014. Investment: € 422,307. Project funded by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), File No. IC11-230. This project has two main objectives:
• Production of omega-3 fatty acids from genetically modified Escherichia coli cultures for the production and accumulation of these type of lipids, using byproducts from different industries (dairy, bio-refineries, paper) as a carbon source.
• Production of omega-3 fatty acids in Synechococcus elongatus genetically modified cyanobacteria, for the production and accumulation of these compounds, using CO2 as a carbon source and liquid manure from livestock farms  (pig , cows and chickens farms) as a nitrogen source.
