New treatments for tuberculosis

The aim is to identify antibiotics that are active against multi-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and that are able to attack mycobacteria during their latency periods. This collaboration is with the Ferrer Group.
Active antibiotics in combination with Polymyxin B



We are looking for compounds that affect resistant bacteria when administered in combination with Polymyxin B. Collaboration with the University of West Ontario in Canada. The initial application is for Cystic Fibrosis, although it may also be useful against multi-resistant bacteria.
Bacterial inhibitors of tRNAs


A collaboration with Omnia Molecular in Barcelona. A selection of Biomar compounds with antibacterial activity are being evaluated in terms of their inhibitory activity.
Non-specific antibacterial drugs
We are looking for new antibiotics for the treatment of multi-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

On this project we study the genes involved on resistance to antibiotics by different bacteria and the creation of new lines to prevent the emergence and spread of these resistances. Biomar will use his collection of natural compounds of marine origin, and select useful candidates according to project specifications.
